This book is about a boy that is a pickpocket of Edinburgh. He accidentally buys an elephant at auction and meets Mr. Jameson. Mr. Jameson makes a bet with another man to see if the elephant can walk to Bellview in 7 days. The boy gets taken care of by Mrs. Jameson and he is named Danny. They meet the elephants keeper and then begin walking. They stopped to stay at many hotels and the story follows their adventure. At the end of their walking time, they have a dilemma – the manager of the hotel accuses the elephant of starting a fire in the stable. Then they go to court. The court stops Danny’s walk and when they win the trial, they have 10 hours to get from Lanchester to Bellview. They have a big adventure in the end.
I liked this book because it was and adventure packed story about Danny and his friends. I would give this book 10/10 rating. I recommend this book for ages 8-10/grades 3-5 if you like adventure filled books with a lot of emotion.
