Andrew, Irene, and Margaret Li didn’t initially set out to with the intention of helming a food truck and a restaurant together, but fate intervened. In 2012, they opened the Mei Mei Street Kitchen food truck, introducing eaters to their unique spin on the food they grew up with. A year later, they expanded into a physical restaurant and have since added full-service catering to their operation as well.
And this year, with the release of their first cookbook, Double Awesome Chinese Food, food lovers everywhere can try their own hand at some of the siblings’ favorite dishes!
Andrew, Irene, and Margaret’s passion for food and their Chinese-American culture is clear as the recipes included fuse their heritage and international influences with a love for everything local. The book’s namesake is a perfect example: The Double Awesome is a fried egg, cheddar, and pesto sandwich wrapped in a scallion pancake. And the recipe is featured in the book!
Other recipes include the siblings’ take on Beef and Broccoli, a Ginger Scallion Lobster Roll, Beef and Blue Cheese Dumplings, and Oolong Panna Cotta, just to name a few.
We love this book and think you will too, which is why it’s our latest pick for the cookbook club. And best of all, with fall in the air and Colorado’s famers’ markets still in full swing, you’re sure to find plenty of excellent dishes to highlight the fabulous local produce this month!
