In the kingdom of Eden, Andreus and Carys are twins not destined to rule Eden. But with a surprising turn of events, the Crown Prince Micah and the King are tragically killed resulting in Andreus and Carys to have a competition for the crown, since they are twins and they both have equal rights to the throne. Otherwise the elders will take over through a young man named Garret who is deemed also worthy.
Andreus seems to be the winner because he is a crowd favorite with the peasants because he helps them . But each have their faults. Andreus has a secret sickness and is secretly in love with Micah’s betrothed, Imogen. Carys takes an addictive drug. Andreus and Carys decide that Andreus should be king and to do that, Carys will purposely lose almost all the the events. But the pact is thrown willy-nilly when a turn of events make the siblings turn this into a war. Who will win? The answer awaits in this book.
When I started this book, I needed to finish it. I think it was the way that they dangled startling secrets just out of my reach, much too tantalizing to refuse. The author made me root for both characters.
