Yes! Bring it on Ms. Messner! I read and amazing book called “Breakout” by Kate Messner. This extraordinary book is a collection of letters, poems, comics, text messages, rap songs and much more. The collection is put together for a time capsule and tells the story of a prison breakout. In the town of Wolf Creek, NY, two inmates break out of a maximum security prison. The story tells what happens in the following days. This story voices how unfair the legal system is and shows how hard it is for a black girl to be in an all-white town. It also shows how racism is still around, and just lurking in the corner. My favorite part of the book was when Elidee Jones, an African American girl wrote a rap song inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical, Hamilton. In this terrific novel, Messner voices her opinion of the world through three very different girls, Lizzie Bruno, Nora Tucker and Elidee Jones. I hope that this book inspires other people to make the world a better place, because it certainly has inspired me. This book is inspirational and definitely should be an award winner. This book will come out on June 5th, 2018 and I can’t wait!
