OMG! OMG! OMG! I absolutely love this book! It’s up there with Percy Jackson and Harry Potter as one of my favorites.
Aru Shah and the End of Time and by Roshani Chokshi is about two girls named Aru and Mini. They are Pandavas, children of the gods. Aru, is a child of Indra, King of the Heavens and Mini, is a child of Dharma Raja, the God of Death. The original five Pandavas were all boys, but this time, all of them are girls. They are underestimated because of their gender. But the Aru and Mini proved that they are worthy. How? By going on a quest to stop the Sleeper, a horrible, nasty man who just happens to want to awake the Lord of Destruction by collecting celestial weapons. Aru, Mini, and their pet pigeon, (Yeah, they have a pet pigeon named Boo) must stop him from doing this. The only problem is that these weapons are in the Kingdom of the Dead and usually, people get to the Kingdom of the Dead by…well… dying. And neither Aru nor Mini feel like dying. Sooooooooo, to get to the Kingdom of the Dead, they must collect three keys, the sprig of youth, a bite of adulthood, and a sip of old age. Then, and only then will they be able to access the Kingdom of the Dead and stop the Sleeper.
In a tale of magic, friendship, and family, Roshani Chokshi has written an amazing book as well as added a twist to Hindu mythology creating lovable, courageous, and cute characters. I love how Aru is always making references to famous books and movies and how Mini is always chattering on about things that nobody else understands. This book was probably created with girls in mind and is definitely on Team Girl-Power. If you like anything by Rick Riordan, you will love this book and will reread it many times.
I can’t wait for this book to come out in stores on March 27. In fact, I’m jumping up and down just thinking about it! I love this book and I bet others will to, so please, please, please, read this book it is amazing! Pre-order a copy at BookBar here.
