Title: Summer of Bad Ideas
Author: Kiera Stewart
Publisher: HarperCollins Children’s Books
Release Date: May, 2017
The summer of bad ideas is a book about one girl who has a mom who is way over protective about her children. This girls name is Edith but wants to be called edie. One summer her grandma Petunia passes on and her family, her uncle, and his daughter have to go make sure her house is ready to sell. They think that it is only going to take 6 weeks but then find out that it is going to take the entire summer. This summer edie and Rea, her 12 year old cousin, go on a bunch of different adventures all summer long with the help of Edie’s twin brother and sister and Mitchell.
In this book the setting is a small town where Edith’s mom grew up. All of the kids are just discovering the secrets of this town and all about Petunia because they had never met her. In this story Edith learns to overcome her fears with the help of a list her grandma had made when she was a child. My favorite character was Rea because she never let anything stand in her way and she was so brave.
I would recommend this book to readers who can be patient with a book until the end because it was a little slow in the beginning but got better towards the end. I would recommend this book to ages 10-12 and grades 5th and 6th. I hope you will join Rea and Edie on their adventures.
